Abstract:
This thesis explores the feasibility of using green hydrogen to decarbonize the energy-intensive alumina production process. It involves a detailed techno-economic analysis, modeling the integration of hydrogen production (electrolysis) and usage within an industrial facility.
The study evaluates different scenarios, considering the fluctuating costs of renewable electricity and the potential carbon tax savings. Results indicate that while currently expensive, green hydrogen becomes a viable solution with specific policy incentives and technological cost reductions.
